How much do you love cruising through the dollar store looking for crafty bargains? My favorite is the plain white ceramic dish – so many different shapes and sizes, all just begging to be doodled on with porcelain paints and markers. So doodle them, I do.

I especially love all the mini square and rectangle dishes – so cute and versatile. I’m a fan of polka dots, so I use small foam fingertip daubers on lots of craft projects. It takes a little practice loading just the right amount of paint and experimenting with pressure, but these daubers make “perfectly imperfect” polka dots. Marabu’s Porcelain Paint is fairly fluid and you can wipe it off right after you apply it if you don’t like your first few tries.

After I made my yellow dots, I let the ceramic dish dry overnight. Then I doodled some simple dots and swirls with Porcelain & Glas Markers to complete the pattern. Just 30 minutes at 320F in the oven and it’s dishwasher-safe! I’m using mine on my bedside table for rings and things.

It’s okay to eat or drink from your painted ceramics after heat-setting, but Marabu recommends you avoid decorating areas where your teeth or cutlery might scratch into the paint.
